The Effect of Cigarettes on Our Life
Imagine for a moment that people until now knew nothing about tobacco. And here comes the local trade department an entrepreneur who asks permission to manufacture a new product called "cigarettes". Naturally, he was asked about the possible consequences from the use of this product. And he, being honest man, should explain that the new product can negatively affect health, particularly increase the risk of stroke, coronary heart disease and can cause lung cancer. Will he be given the permission to manufacture cigarettes? The answer, I think, is obvious.
The irony is that cigarettes are the only world's officially illegal drugs nowadays. However, the nicotine dependence is not comparable to heroin. Medical research suggests that only one percent of those trying to quit smoking cope with this task during one year.
Everyone knows that buying cigarettes and smoking them can cause health problems, but not only. There are also social and economic problems. Every year the number of smokers among women and adolescents is increasing. Especially for them there were created so-called "light" and "super light" cigarettes. In most cases people begin smoking cheap cigarettes between the ages of 13-14 years, when teens are simply not able to fully appreciate the negative consequences of this habit. Then, when the age, the heart begins to misbehave and lungs sit down, have time to develop persistent dependence, and quitting is not that easy.
However a complete ban on smoking or the decisive attack on the tobacco companies could lead to irreparable losses to the domestic industry. The myths are telling that it's not true. In the US, for example, experts estimate that each pack of cigarettes that is not sold can cause direct damage to the economy for seven dollars. This amount includes the costs of untaken taxes, jobless people and closing manufacture. Also the ban on local cigarettes forces smokers to look for cheap cigarettes online thus taking money outside the country.
